Research

As well as conducting laboratory based observations and operating a Dissolved Organic Matter (DOM) Analysis Facility here at UCSB, the Carlson Lab is active in field research throughout the year. Operations span the globe, from local field work in the Santa Barbara Channel and collaborations with Long Term Ecological Research (LTER) networks and oceanographic monitoring sites (BATS) to all the major ocean basins. Current projects are detailed below.

Focusing research on the ocean's smallest life forms.
U.S. Global Ocean Ship-based Hydrographic Investigations Program.
EXport Processes in the Ocean from Remote Sensing.
North Atlantic Aerosols and Marine Ecosystems Study.
Santa Barbara Channel Projects.
Moorea Coral Reef Long Term Ecological Research (MCR-LTER) collaborations.
